Breaking Wimbledon Fashion Rules: Lets Talk About It

The iconic Wimbledon tournament is a sensory delight, with the scent of meticulously cut grass, the taste of mouth-watering strawberries and cream, and the melodic rhythm of perfect serves and returns. Set in the elegant city of London, Wimbledon is a world-renowned tennis event overflowing with history and class. Beyond its tennis traditions, much of Wimbledon’s heritage is deeply intertwined with fashion.

With a history of elitist and royal crowds, Wimbledon fashion has taken the traditional, modest approach to its dress code. However, as time and fashion evolve, more “rules” are broken, and events like Wimbledon become a pool of exciting looks that break barriers. Here are a few of our favorite looks that push the boundaries of tradition.

Emma D’Arcy & Olivia Cooke

House of Dragon co-stars Emma D’arcy and Olivia Cooke play with traditional masculine pieces and suit parts for a look perfect for a tennis outing. Cooke’s blazer dress and D’Arcy’s monochrome ensemble represent a new age of expression and encourage thinking outside the box and not conforming to traditional gender-assigned fashion pieces. The addition of a knit striped sweater is the perfect accessory for London, echoing the personality of the fabulous city.

Naomi Ackie

Completely disregarding the formality requirement of Wimbledon is Naomi Ackie, proving that amazing style doesn't have to come at the cost of comfort. This long black silk skirt paired with a crisp white T and jean jacket offers the most universal and relatable look. Recently, we have seen an increase in laid-back accessories such as baseball caps, sneakers, and low-profile sunglasses that blend with timeless pieces, creating an effortless and trendy look. We should all gain inspiration from Naomi, perfect for Wimbledon or a morning coffee date. Be clear, be confident and don’t overthink it. The beauty of your story is that it’s going to continue to evolve and your site can evolve with it. Your goal should be to make it feel right for right now. Later will take care of itself. It always does.

Charli XCX

If you didn’t know, it's Brat Summer, and we’re getting all the Brat vibes from this lace black mini dress paired with leg climbing boots and the tiniest of sunglasses. Charlie XCX has recently exploded and has become a global icon, and we’re willing to wear pretty much anything she tells us to. Ignoring the tradition of soft-spoken and modest clothing we are used to seeing in tennis stands, Charlie stays true to her sexy and loud brand in a goth-inspired mini dress. The rebellious attitude of wearing black lace to one of the most esteemed and classic tennis matches in the world is exactly what Charlie XCX represents. True expression and style are unbeatable, no matter the occasion.

Romeo Beckham

Male Wimbledon guests have never been seen outside of a suit and tie—that is until Romeo Beckham pulls up, representing Gen Z in his ultra-casual streetwear look. The addition of jewelry to his simple white T-shirt and trousers elevates this look, which resembles the artsy, mysterious airport crush that you’ll never see again. Gen Z emphasizes comfort wherever they go; everyone else should take notes.

Leomie Anderson

One word for this: Absolutely glowing (ok maybe two words). The luminous model Leomie Anderson stuns at Wimbledon with an incredibly playful and whimsical look, words we don't usually use to describe fashion at Wimbledon. Anderson pushes the boundaries of pattern, color, and modesty with a patterned collar shirt and ultra mini electric blue skirt. This look doesn’t take itself too seriously and brings back the fun of fashion. Her golden Louis Vuitton bag is the perfect accessory for this high-fashion and luxurious vibe.

Pixie Lott

We knew that Wimbledon made their players wear all white, but not their guests! English singer Pixie Lott wears an adorable white set that definitely breaks traditional barriers. Years ago, midriff and mini skirts would’ve never seen the light of day at Wimbledon. Thank god that's not true anymore. From the stylish sunglasses to her bouncy blonde blowout, Pixie Lott emulates a real-life Meredith Blake. Don't worry; Trout was definitely not served.

Zendaya

Do blondes really have more fun? Zendaya’s new hair definitely has us questioning. Zendaya continued showing her love of tennis this past weekend at Wimbledon in a beautiful Ralph Lauren menswear look. The layering of a tweed blazer over top of a classic blue button-down and knit tie combines numerous textures and silhouettes that capture your eye immediately. The blend of masculine and feminine energy has been a constant trend, and its overwhelming appeal has now touched Wimbledon.
